Our first five videos were Jitterbug, Nightclub (which is freestyle rock & slow dancing), Fox Trot, Tango, and Waltz (pictured below). They were such a hit (we were even mentioned in Billboard for several weeks) that we started a second series.
What this means is that while the first series was created for beginners, the second series took into consideration that you learned to dance from Kathy's video dance lessons or knew the basic fundamentals of a particular dance style already. And later, Kathy did a third series which has some more advanced steps and patterns for those people now ready to do fancier dancing. -FYI Kathy is teaching mostly Bronze level steps. Occasionally in the third series a Silver or Gold pattern is taught.
What's American Style or International Style???
American Style: The syllabus is based on the National Dance Council of America syllabus with popular variations. Names of figures and timing can vary from one part of the country and/or studio to another. The basic social dancer develops through this program. (We ship American style unless you ask for International when we have both available.)
International Style: The syllabus is based on the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in London, England, for both Modern & Latin Dancing. This is a standard for dancing that is taught around the world and has standard technique, timing, and styling. (Before Kathy started a series labeled "International" she did teach a few styles that are International even though their boxes for videos do not say "International"; i.e., Quickstep, Jive, and Paso Doble.)
Competitive format uses both American and International Styles: Both American and International Styles of Dancing are used for social dancing. Globally, International Style is taught the same in Japan, Germany, etc., and the United States; whereas, American Style is taught differently from studio to studio. There is no absolute standardization for American Style, as there is in the International. For the dance enthusiast, knowing either/or both Styles of dancing is valuable.
Many dance studios teach directly from the material on Kathy Blake's Video Dance Lessons expecially when students want to learn a more unusual style of dancing; i.e., Bossa Nova or Paso Doble, etc.
Many dance studios sell Kathy Blake's Video Dance Lessons to their students to reinforce their own fine lessons. It is no secret that everybody forgets about 80% of what they learn by the next day. What a wonderful thing Kathy Blake's Video Lessons are to use if you've paid money for studio lessons and can refresh your memory from the videos until you learn the material completely.
Also using videos stops a lot of arguments between couples who learned the studio lesson from different perspectives and remembered something differently.
When The Rock Band Is Playing, How Do You Do That Dance?
Ever notice at some contemporary gatherings that everybody is up dancing around as the band plays rock music, and no two people are doing the same thing? Ever wonder what you should shake, wiggle, or roll? Ever worry about saying something in body language that you really don't want to admit? Relief is just a Kathy Blake Dance Lesson Video away!
You'll soon know just what to do after you see Kathy Blake's Nightclub (Freestyle Rock and Slow Dancing) Video Dance Lesson. And if you want to do more steps and even look better, you'll also order Nightclub 2. Kathy and her partner teach you the movements so you can express yourself with the rock music and feel confident that you are looking good.
Nightclub is one of our best sellers. Many people use this easy dance to break the ice in getting up and dancing, even if it's for the first time in their lives. No more shyness. Become a legend in your own time.
For people who go clubbing...we sell a lot of Nightclub 1, Nightclub 2, Disco/Hustle 1, Disc Hustle 2, Lambada 1, Lambada 2, and Dirty dance lesson videos. Remember, folks, these are all titles that people have asked Kathy to make...and when you see a 2 or a 3 after a title, that's because they want more, more, more.

Kathy shares professional technique and styling secrets!
Now you and your partner can be the best looking couple on the dance floor!
It's all a matter of styling and technique. Kathy Blake, an award winning competitive dancer, has created a new series of Technique videos and shares with you her secrets of winning dancing competitions and looking fantastic on the dance floor.
You've observed two couples on
the
dance floor. You know they have been dancing about the same length of
time
and they are doing the same or similar steps and patterns but one
couple
looks better than the other...that's technique. Once you know
the
steps and patterns, you should improve your technique. You will be glad
you
did.
You do want to polish up your skills so you are the best you can be. Kathy explains in understandable detail how you can learn everything you need to know to improve your style so you and your partner look fabulous on the dance floor.
Kathy shows you how to tilt your head correctly, where to look as you spin around, how to hold your shoulders, how to swing your hips, where to put your hands, and about everything else you need to know to really look grand. You'll love the results from these very special videos. You'll want them all!
Technique 1--Posture & Balance (Smooth Ballroom): The elegance of movement can only be achieved by the solid understanding and practice of the principles of correct posture and balance. All of your dances will improve as you master forward and backward steps, correct frame, rise and fall, weight transfers, and secrets of leading and following. Make every dance a joy. You and your partner will float across the dance floor and be the envy of all!
Technique 2 -- Posture & Cuban Motion (Latin): What makes a dancer look fabulous and stand out from the crowd when the spicy Latin music plays? Mastering the sensuous and distinctive flowing hip and knee actions that create the Cuban motion is fun and makes every Latin dance look authentic and great. Master the techniques and learn how a Latin dancer stands, transfers weight, articulates the foot, knee, and hips, and you will add extra pleasure to your dancing.
Technique 3--Rhythm & Styling (Smooth Ballroom): Every great couple has a style of their own. Where does that style come from? After learning basic step patterns and mastering posture and balance, it is time to concentrate on the music. Musical interpretation is the true joy of dancing. The special way we feel about each dance from the inside out helps us to express our personality on the dance floor. It requires knowledge and understanding of music, timing, and translation through all of your step patterns to create a style of your own that you will enjoy and others will admire.
Technique 4--Rhythm & Styling (Latin): What excitement when a couple gets on the floor and truly knows how to interpret those spicy Latin rhythms and step patterns. Learn the origin of Afro-Cuban rhythms and musical styles and how to make your personality come to life on the dance floor. It is how you dance that makes the difference. Learn how to make the music work for you as you master the principles of authentic Latin American dancing.
Technique 5--Competition & Exhibition Dancing: So now you have become really serious about your dancing! Perhaps a competition is coming up and you want to polish your performance style, or perhaps you've been invited to give a demonstration or show for a local community event. Whatever the reasons, learn what tricks and techniques help a couple to look polished, professional, and most of all, exciting and entertaining. You can be outstanding on the dance floor by mastering basic principles of showmanship.

Using the video teaching system Kathy Blake uses, talented award winning competitive champion country dancers Lennie Williams and Stan Ryals instruct a series of Country dance lesson videos. Lennie and Stan are also experienced dance teachers.
They are well thought of in the country dancing world and have been personally asked to perform in an opening part of a show by the famous featured star, Reba McIntyre. Lennie and Stan appear in costume to put you in the mood to learn all these cute routines.
Country 2-Step: The most widely danced country western dance. It can be danced to a wide variety of music, both fast and slow.
Country Waltz: A romantic, flowing dance which showcases the lady. It has a generally forward progression counter-clockwise around the dance floor.
Shuffle: Based on the polka, the Shuffle is a lively and fun dance. It is a partner dance, danced by a couple or as a group (example three ladies). Included instructions for the Cotton-Eyed Joe.
Schottische: Developed from a Scandinavian folk dance, the Schottische is traditionally danced right after the Cotton-Eyed Joe and is characterized by a stop and go pattern and a unique scooting step.
Pony Swing: The original cowboy swing dance. The simple footwork allows the Pony Swing to be danced to a wide variety of music from slow to very fast.
Country Line Dances: You'll learn the Slappin' leather, L.A. Walk, the Tush Push, the Boot Scoot, and Walkin' Wazi.
Economical
Kathy Blake compares the amount of material in each video or DVD dance lesson to the amount of material covered in private studio dancing lessons and states that a student receives via video or DVD about 3 times what they'd get in a comparable amount of time in a studio lesson.
You and your partner can take the lesson over and over until you've got it perfect and then review that dance routine before a social event at no extra cost with your video or DVD dance lesson. You can share your video or DVD dance lesson with your friends. Such a bargain!
And so convenient.
